Menstrual Cycle:

  1. Menstrual cycle is the shedding of the underlying endometrium if fertilization does not take place.
  2. If a woman stops having menstrual periods in her reproductive years, it leads to a medical condition called as amenorrhea.
  3. Another reason of the stoppage of menstrual periods could be pregnancy.

Reasons for Amenorrhea are:

  1. Hypothalamic amenorrhea can be caused by having an athletic build-up, higher levels of regular exercise, and could be even psychological stress.
  2. In these cases, fertility could be restored by reducing the intensity of weight gain, exercise, and cognitive behavioral therapy.
  3. The normal ovarian function could be affected by the disorders of the pituitary gland as this could cause the triggering of the production of hormones and the development of follicles in the ovaries.
