Homeostasis: The preservation of equilibria within an organism or biological system or the ability to withstand changes in the internal environment in response to changes in the external environment.

The regulation of homeostasis depends on three mechanisms:

  1. Effector: The effector responds to the control center's directives. It has the potential to either resist or amplify the stimulus.
  2. Receptor: The receptor is the sensing component that detects and responds to changes in the external or internal environment.
  3. Control Center: The integration center, also known as the control center, receives and processes information from the receptor.

A variety of variables can influence homeostasis. The most common among them are:

  1. Genetics
  2. Physical health
  3. Nutrition and diet
  4. Toxins and venoms
  5. Psychological well-being
  6. Medication and medical procedure side effects

Failure of homeostasis can result in the following:

  1. Illnesses or diseases originate from the failure of homeostasis function in an internal environment.
  2. It leads to disbalance and perturbation in the body's physiological and biochemical processes.
  3. It leads to cellular and tissue toxicity due to the accumulation of harmful byproducts and reactive oxygen species.
  4. All these effects are surmounting evidence that causes organ failure.
  5. It can also result in death and disability in severe circumstances.
