Question

What happens if one table spoon of salt is added to saturated solution of salt and water ? What will be the effect of heating this solution .

Solution

When you add extra salt (NaCl) to a saturated solution, it will immediately precipitate to the bottom of the containment vessel. Boiling the solution will allow more of the salt to be dissolved, thus reducing the amount sitting at the bottom (precipitate). If you stop boiling the solution and let it cool to room temperature, you will have created a supersaturated solution.
