Question

What happens if the spring constant increases?

Open in App
Solution

  1. The spring constant k, represents the rigidity of the spring.
  2. When the spring constant k is increased, the spring will become more rigid and will be difficult to stretch.
  3. Spring constant and restoring force are directly proportional
    F=-kx
    where, F=restoring force; k=spring constant; x=displacement of the spring.
  4. For a constant applied force, If the spring constant increases the displacement of the spring will decrease as the stiffness of the spring increases.
