Question

What happens in the seedling growth stage of germination?

Solution

Plant growth stage:

  1. Plant growth stages include seed germination, vegetative and growth phases, and reproductive stages.
  2. Seed germination is the fundamental process by which many plant species develop from a single seed into a plant.
  3. This procedure has an impact on crop output as well as crop quality.

Seedling growth stage of germination:

  1. The sprouting of a seedling from an angiosperm or gymnosperm seed is a frequent example of seed germination.
  2. When seedling growth begins after germination, it indicates a shift in priorities toward the fast root and shoot growth and the creation of a photosynthetic seedling.
  3. The seedling plant grows through continuous cell division in multiple developing areas of the embryo during the seedling development period. This is followed by the growth of the seedling structures.
  4. This stage lasts 3-16 weeks and begins when the root system can support growth.
  5. During this time, plants are busy performing photosynthesis (using sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to make oxygen and energy in the form of sugar) and storing resources for blooming and reproduction.
  6. They grow rapidly and will continue to do so unless the water or nutrient intake changes.
  7. During this stage, most of the growth occurs in the stem, branch, and leaf sections.
