What happens to friction when we decrease irregularities on two surfaces rubbing each other?

Friction is force that opposes the relative motion of the objects. If the irregularities of the surface increases, friction will also increases. Irregularities on both the surfaces lock into each other. The force applied would depend on the number of these irregularities and hence friction decreases when irregularities decrease.
