Question

What happens to light when it gets dispersed? Give an example.

Open in App
Solution

The splitting of white light into its constituent colours is called dispersion. The light that gets refracted forms a spectrum. The angle at which the different colours get deviated is different for different colours. Red gets less deviated while violet is deviated the maximum forming the lower part of the spectrum.
Example: An arch of rainbow in the sky is due to the dispersion of colours.
