Question

What happens to the atomic size of elements moving from top to bottom of a group?

Solution

  • Atomic size is the distance between the center of the nucleus of an atom and its outermost shell.
  • Atomic size increases as we move from top to bottom of a group because as we move down a new shell gets added and electrons in the outermost shell so the distance from the nucleus increases.
