Question

What happens to the color of sky if there is no atmosphere on earth

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,

The sky will appear as blue during daytime and red/orange during sunset and sunrise when viewed from earth..This happens because of the scattering of sunlight by tiny particles present in the earth's atmosphere.
If there was no atmosphere on earth, there will be no scattering of the sunlight. So when we look up the sky, no scattered colour will be there. In the absence of colours ,sky will appear as black. The sun will be looking very bright and other stars can be seen as tiny dots.

When viewed from space sky appears also as black as there is no atmosphere.

Regards.
