Question

What happens to the direction of velocity and acceleration when the speed of an object increases and decreases?

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student
If the speed of object is increasing, then direction of velocity is in direction of motion.
If the speed of object is decreasing, then direction of velocity is in opposite direction of motion.

Acceleration is a vector in the same direction as the change in velocity,
When speed is increasing , then velocity as well as acceleration is in direction of motion.
When an object slows down, its acceleration is opposite to the direction of its motion. This is known as deceleration.
