After meiosis, the daughter cells are not intended to live independently, but to combine with another meiotic cell from another organism, which will provide a full set of chromosomes. The daughter cells are either stored or released into an environment where they can encounter and fuse with meiotic cells from another organism, usually of the opposite gender.
Meiosis is intended only for sexual reproduction, in which a set of genetic information from two individuals is combined. In humans, meiosis eventually produces sperm in males and eggs in females, which must combine to form a fertilized embryo, which can grow into a unique human.
