Question

what happens to the H+ ions and the temperature of the solution when an acid is neutralised

Open in App
Solution

Acid is neutralised by adding a base that consists of OH- ions. These combine with H+ ions and form water.

H+(aq) + OH-(aq) H2O(l)

Neutralisation reactions are exothermic i.e. they release heat and hence the temperature of the solution increases.
