What happens to the magnetic needle if it is placed near an electric current ?

  1. When a magnetic needle is placed near an electric current the needle gets deflected.
  2. The deflection of the needle is due to the magnetic field near the compass which is produced by the current-carrying wire.
  3. A current-carrying wire produces a magnetic field and behaves like a magnet. This is called electromagnetism.
