Question

What happens to the magnifying power of a microscope, when its length increases?

Open in App
Solution

Microscope:

  1. An optical tool that magnifies an object by using a lens or a combination of lenses is called a microscope.
  2. Mathematically, magnification m in the microscope is given as follows:

m=-Lf0×Dfe

Where, L is the length of the tube, Dis the least distance for clear vision, f0 is the focal length of the objective, and, feis the focal length of the eyepiece.
So, as L increases, m also increases.

Therefore, when the length of the microscope increases, its magnifying power increases.
