Question

What happens to the melting point of ice when pressure is increased?

Open in App
Solution

Water/ ice's melting point decreases with increase in pressure, which is if you press a ice cube in hand it will melt faster.

Ice takes more volume than liquid water.
Hence , it's actually easier to melt it at high pressure and also it requires less heat.

As we know water expands when turn to ice, so the ice kept under pressure gets more comfort achieving the most compact form of it which is the water.
