Question

what happens to the period ofa simple pendulum whenit is taken from equator to the poles?

Open in App
Solution

Time period of a simple pendulum is given :

T = 2 π Lgwhere, L is effective length of the pendulum and g is the acceleration due to gravity.

As value of acceleration due to gravity increase as we go from equator to pole.
Since, T is inversely proportional to g, hence when the simple pendulum is taken from equator to poles, hence time period of the pendulum will decrease.
