Solution

Definition of potential energy:

  1. The energy possessed by a body on account of its position or configuration, is called potential energy.

Mathematical expression for potential energy:

PotentialEnergy=mass×accelerationduetogravity×heightP.E.=m×g×h

Explanation:

We know,P.E=m×g×h

Accelerationonthemoon=16×accelerationonearth

According to the question,

When the body is taken on the surface of Moon.

New, PotentialEnergy=P.E.'

P.E.'=m×(16g)×h

P.E.'=16×m×g×h=16×P.E.

Hence, the new potential energy becomes 16 times of the original.
