Solution

Ovulation:

  1. The release of the ovum from the ovary by the rupturing of the Graafian follicle is termed ovulation.
  2. After, the release of the ovum, the remaining cells of granulosa and theca interna transform into corpus luteum.
  3. The center of the collapsed follicle (corpus luteum) filled with blood from theca interna, the membrane between theca interna and glomerulosa breakdown, and cells of glomerulosa and theca interna enlarge and transform into pale staining polygon cells called lutein cells characterized by high lipid content.
  4. Lutein cells produce progesterone, which is essential for the maintenance of the endometrial lining of the uterus and the implantation of the fertilized egg.
