Question

What happens to the resistivity of semi conductors with the increase the temperature?

Open in App
Solution

  1. A semiconductor starts conducting more as the temperature increases as electrons in the valence band get enough thermal energy to move to the conduction band.
  2. As the number of electrons in the conduction band increases, so conductivity increases and resistivity decreases.

Therefore, resistivity decreases with the rise in temperature.
