Question
What happens to the speed of light when it undergoes refraction in a medium ? Hence define absolute refractive index of a medium.
Open in App
Solution
When the light undergoes refraction, its speed changes. The changed speed can be calculated if the absolute refractive index of that medium is given.
The absolute refractive index of a medium is equal to the ratio of the speed of light in air/vacuum and speed of light in that medium.
