Question

What happens to the useful substances which enter Proximal Convoluted Tubule (PCT)?

Open in App
Solution

Proximal convoluted tubule:

  1. The proximal convoluted tubule (PCT) is a convoluted structure of the nephrons that connects the cup-shaped Bowman's capsule to the Loop of Henle.
  2. Bowman's capsules enclose the tuft of capillaries forming the glomerulus which provides a site for the process of ultrafiltration of the blood.
  3. The loop of Henle is a U-shaped tubule that has two limbs ascending limb and descending respectively.
  4. After the process of filtration the filtrate which leaves the Bowman's capsule and enters the PCT is known as the glomerular filtrate.
  5. The essential substances (glucose, ions, and water) present in the filtrate are reabsorbed in the proximal convoluted tubule.
