Hi,

2-Methylbut-2-ene and the aqueous alkaline solution of potassium permanganate (Baeyer's reagent) at room temperature results in the formation of 2-Methybutane-1,2-diol. (cis-hydroxylation).

CH3C(CH3)=CH2CH3 alkaline KMnO4 CH3C(CH3)(OH)CH2(OH)CH3
