Question

What happens when a plant is losing too much water through transpiration?

Open in App
Solution

Loss of water in transpiration:

  1. When plants lose excess water, the rate of absorption increases and wilting takes place.
  2. When wilting occurs, the cells of the plants lose water and become dry.
  3. When the conditions are dry and hot in summer, the rate of water evaporation is rapid.
  4. For the survival of plants, they must be able to refrain from losing excess water.
  5. Plants have certain adaptations, structures that help excess water loss such as the cuticle, and leaf hair.
