Question 01.
What happens when a solution of an acid is mixed with a solution of a base in a test tube ?
(i) The temperature of the solution increases.
(ii) The temperature of the solution decreases.
(iii) The temperature of the solution remains the same.
(iv) Salt formation takes place.
When neutralisation reaction occurs between an acid and base, the disassociated ions found in the solution form bonds to produce salt and water. When bond formation happens between the ions, energy is released. Hence, the reaction between acid and salt is exothermic in nature and forms a salt.
