When anisole is treated with $C H_{3} C l$ in presence of anhydrous $A l {C l}_{3}$ , a mixture of ortho and para methyl anisole is produced.
Anisole undergoes Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction with an alkyl halide in presence of Lewis acid $A l {C l}_{3}$ as a catalyst.
