Question

What happen when capacitor is connected to a battery?

Open in App
Solution

  1. A capacitor is a device used to store electric charge.
  2. If the capacitor is connected to a plain DC battery, the charge will start to build up on the plates.
  3. The current flow in the circuit for some time then decreases to zero. when the capacitor is connected to a battery.
  4. After a short while capacitor acts as an open circuit.
  5. If an uncharged capacitor is connected to a battery potential V, then transient current flows as capacitor plates get charged.
  6. The charge Q on the positive plate reaches the value

Q=C.V

Where Q is the charge on the plate, V potential difference and C is a capacitor.
