Solution

When CO2 is passed through lime water,
(i) for a short interval of time: lime water turns milky due to the formation of white precipitate of CaCO3.

Ca(OH)2(aq)+CO2(g)CaCO3(s)+H2O(l)

(ii) for a considerable long time: CaCO3 reacts with CO2 to form Ca(HCO3)2 which is soluble in water. The milkiness disappears.

CaCO3(s)+CO2(g)+H2O(l)Ca(HCO3)2(aq)
