Open in App
Solution

  1. Potassium Dichromate (K2Cr2O7): It is a strong oxidizing agent.
  2. There are two steps involved in the reaction between Ethanol (C2H5OH) and Potassium Dichromate is given below:
STEP 1: Ethanol is oxidized to Ethanal.
    CH3CH2OHAcidifiedK2Cr2O7CH3CHO
STEP 2: Ethanal oxidized into an Ethanoic acid.
    CH3CHOAcidifiedK2Cr2O7CH3COOH

Thus, when Ethanol reacts with acidified Potassium dichromate, Ethanoic acid is formed.
