Question

What happens when Lead nitrate is heated in a dry test tube? (write balance chemical equation)

Open in App
Solution

Thermal decomposition reaction:

The compounds undergo decomposition reaction in presence of heat or temperature. This is called a thermal decomposition reaction.

Reaction of Lead nitrate on heating:
When Lead nitrate is heated in a dry test tube, it undergoes the decomposition reaction to give Lead oxide and Nitrogen dioxide.
The equation has an equal count of atoms on both sides of the reaction. The balanced chemical equation for the reaction is given below.

PbNO3sPbOs+NO2g(Leadnitrate)(Leadoxide)(Nitrogendioxide)
