Question

What happens when Magnesium reacts with hot water?

Open in App
Solution

Metals reacts with water (H2O) and results in the formation of metal oxide (MO) and Hydrogen (H2).

Magnesium (Mg) interacts slowly with cold water (H2O), but quickly with hot boiling water (H2O), to produce Magnesium oxide ( MgO ) and Hydrogen (H2). The chemical reaction is as follows.

Mg(s)Magnesium+H2OBoilingwater(l)MgO(s)Magnesiumoxide+H2(g)Hydrogen
