Plasma membrane is a protective covering of the cell. It protects the cell from nature of surrounding medium, i.e., acidic, basic etc. It also controls the substances to be moved inside or outside of the cell. It is the boundary of the cell and keeps the cell organelles inside the cell. When plasma membrane breaks, the solutes present in surrounding medium harm various cell organelles.
