What happens when you pour some acetone on your palm?
The particles gain energy from the palms and evaporate, causing the palm to feel cool.
Acetone is volatile liquid with a very low boiling point, i.e., it vaporises readily. When we put acetone (nail polish remover) on our palm, acetone takes up the heat energy from the palm to vaporise as it requires latent heat of vaporisation to change from liquid state to vapour state. The hand loses heat and gets cooled. Hence, the particles gain energy from the palms or surroundings and evaporate causing the palm to feel cool.
