Zinc does not react with water, because it, too, forms a protective layer of insoluble zinc hydroxide, Zn(OH)2 .
This reaction releases hydrogen, which reacts with oxygen explosively. Zinc salts cause a milky turbidity in water in higher concentrations. Additionally, zinc may addan unwanted flavour to water. This occurs at concentrations of about 2 mg Zn2+/
