Growth hormone:

  1. Growth hormone (GH), also known as somatotropin or human growth hormone, is a peptide hormone secreted by the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland.
  2. It stimulates the growth of almost every tissue in the body, including bones.
  3. An increase in growth hormone levels over a long period of time can lead to conditions such as prepubertal gynecomastia and in adults, it causes acromegaly.
  4. People with gigantism have an unusually large size. In acromegaly, the bones of the jaw, fingers, and toes become thickened. Face deformed by the abnormal nose, prominent orbital ridge, thick lips, and lip hair in females.
