What helps protein absorption?

Open in App
Solution

Protein absorption:

  1. Microvilli are small, finger-like structure present in the small intestine.
  2. These microvilli help in the absorption of proteins.
  3. The complete process of protein digestion is carried out by hydrochloric acid and protease enzymes.
  4. These two enzymes break the protein molecules into smaller chains of amino acids.
  5. From the stomach, these smaller chains of amino acids move into the small intestine.
  6. The small intestine further breaks down the amino acid chain into individual amino acids with the help of enzymes and bicarbonate buffers.
