Hormones :
The chemical substances secreted from various parts of the body transfer messages to cells in different parts of the human body.
These chemical messages allow the body to regulate various cell processes such as sleep, growth, blood glucose level, sexual reproduction, and controlling stress.
Hormones produced by the ovaries:
Ovary secretes two hormones: Estrogen and Progesterone.
Estrogen and progesterone are steroid hormones.
Estrogen is secreted by growing follicles.
Estrogen regulates the development of growing follicles and secondary sexual characteristics.
Progesterone is secreted by the corpus luteum.
Progesterone is required for maintaining the endometrium during implantation and pregnancy.
Progesterone stimulates the formation of alveoli for milk storage in mammary glands and milk secretion.
Hormones produced by the testes:
In males, the testes is responsible for secretion of the male sex hormone, testosterone.
Testosterone is the most important sex hormone synthesized in men responsible for attaining puberty in males, muscle mass growth, and strengthen the bones and muscles, increasing the bone density and also controls facial hair growth.
Testosterone helps in maturation of male reproductive organs, as well as the development of secondary sex characteristics.
Testosterone is secreted by testes in response to the luteinizing hormone secreted by hypothalamus.
