What hormones control the kidneys?

Open in App
Solution

Hormone:

  1. The chemical substances secreted from various parts of the body transfer messages to cells in different parts of the human body.
  2. These chemical messages allow the body to regulate various cell processes such as sleep, growth, blood glucose level, sexual reproduction, and controlling stress.

Hormones that control the kidneys:

  1. Three hormones control the kidneys: Aldosterone, Antidiuretic hormone (ADH) and Atrial natriuretic factor.
  2. Aldosterone: It stimulates the reabsorption of water and sodium and excretion of sodium and potassium ions.
  3. Antidiuretic hormone (ADH): It stimulates the reabsorption of water from the distal tubules. Also, ADH prevents diuresis.
  4. Atrial natriuretic factor: It stimulates the excretion of water and sodium ions.
