  1. Pars nervosa is a part of the posterior lobe of the pituitary gland.
  2. Pars nervosa stores and releases two hormones: Arginine vasopressin (AVP) and Oxytocin.
  3. Arginine vasopressin helps in the constriction of blood vessels.
  4. It also helps the kidneys to maintain the water and salt balance in the body.
  5. Oxytocin stimulates uterine contractions in labor during childbirth, and stimulates contractions of breast tissue during the lactation period.
