Open in App
Solution

Media plays a very important role in democracy. It provides access to information to the citizens, which is very important for democracy. This is because of the following two reasons:
  1. Media ensures that citizens make responsible and informed choices in the democratic framework and are not guided by ignorance or misinformation.
  2. The information provided through media ensures that the elected representatives uphold their oaths of office and carry out the wishes of their electors.
The information that the media provides also helps the citizens in learning the functioning of the government and assists them in voicing their grievance against the government. The media further promotes democracy by educating voters, protecting human rights, promoting tolerance among various social groups and ensuring that governments are transparent and accountable.
