What information does the atomic number give?

Solution
The atomic number of an element is equal to the total number of protons present in the nucleus of that atom.
In the electrically neutral atom, the number of protons is equal to the number of electrons to maintain the electrical neutrality of that atom.
By finding the total number of electrons in the atom, we can describe the electronic configuration of that element.
