  1. A thin layer of bacteria that is placed on a tray or a slide for staining is known as a bacterial smear.
  2. A bacterial smear fixes bacteria on the slide and prevents the bacterial sample from being washed away during staining.
  3. To prevent washing away of bacterial smear, the smear is chemically or physically fixed to the slide surface.
  4. A bacterial smear stains the bacteria and makes it easy to observe bacteria.
