Question
What is a Benzylic Position?
Open in App
Solution
The position next to the Benzene ring is called the Benzylic position.
This position is very reactive and helpful in the synthesis of many organic compounds.
Benzylic position can be stabilised by resonance, so it is highly stable.
Benzylic position can help in stabilising any sort of charge or radical with the help of resonance.
When any group is attached to Benzylic Carbon, Carbon adjacent to the Benzene ring is called the Benzylic group.
For example - In Benzylic chloride, Chlorine is attached to benzyl.
