Blastocyst:

  1. The hollow cell mass formed during the early development of mammals is known as the blastocyst
  2. The blastocyst consists of the cells that form the trophic epidermis, the inner cell mass, and the fluid-filled cavity or blastocoel.
  3. A blastocyst is formed in a process called blasting about 5 to 6 days after fertilization.
  4. The zygote starts dividing after fertilisation and at this stage around 50-200 cells are present.
  5. The trophoblast layer of blastocyst attaches to the endometrium of the uterus and helps in implantation.
  6. Inner cell mass of blastocyst develops into the embryo and gives rise to fetal tissue.
