Dear student,
Callose plugs or simply, callose depositions are formed in pollen tubes. They make the cytoplasm of pollen tube to remain near the growing tip and blocks off the contact with older parts of tube.
The intine becomes thickened or callose gets deposited in these specific areas. If the deposition is in the rounded shape, it is called as germ pores and if deposited in elongated shape then called as germinal furrows.
The callose wall separates the vegetative cell from the generative cell and provides an adequate isolation barrier for the differentiation of both vegetative and generative cells. Callose depositions are formed in pollen tubes from a group of enzymes callose synthases.
