What is a chemical reaction? Explain with an example.

Chemical reaction is a process of transformation of one or more substances into a new substance(s). In a chemical reaction, the original substances are known as the reactants and the new substances that are formed are known as products.
Chemical reactions are represented through chemical equations. And while writing a chemical equation, the reactants are written on the left-hand side whereas the products are written on the right-hand side. And these two are separated from each other by an arrow.
For example, magnesium reacts with oxygen and forms magnesium oxide. Here magnesium and oxygen are the reactants while magnesium oxide is the product.
