What is a coenocytic mycelium?

Open in App
Solution

Except for yeast, most of the fungi are filamentous with their body consisting of long thread-like structures called hyphae. Some hyphae are continuous tubes with multi-nucleated cytoplasm and known as coenocytic hyphae. And a network of hyphae is called mycelium.
Thus a coenocytic mycelium is a network of multinucleated hyphae.
Ex: Phycomycetes
