Synthesis or hydrolysis of ATP and synthesis and hydrolysis of NADH are coupled reactions. Here an energetically unfavorable reaction is coupled with an energetically favorable one to balance the energy loss and gain. All reactions of the Kreb's cycle which synthesise NADPH and ATP or GTP are called as coupled reactions.
