A disaster is a sudden calamity, it causes severe disruption to the functioning of a society.
Disasters cause widespread human, material, economic and environmental loss.
Disasters can be classified into two categories-natural and man-made disasters.
A natural disaster is an unfavourable event resulting from the earth's natural process. Floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, forest fires and cyclones are some examples of natural disasters.
Disasters resulting from the activities of man are called man-made disasters. Industrial accidents, riots and war are examples of man-made disasters.
