Disease:

  1. The disease can be defined as the discomfort caused in the body due to the invasion of any foreign intruder in our body.
  2. The various modes of spread of infectious disease are:

Direct Transmission

1. Person to Person:

  1. When diseases are transmitted from an unhealthy person to a healthy person with the help of various means
  2. like fluid or droplets,
  3. Eg. HIV Transmission is one such example.

2. Droplet Transmission:

  1. The droplets spread during sneezing, speaking, and coughing
  2. An infected person can spread infections.

3. Spread by the skin:

  1. There are a few infections such as chickenpox, conjunctivitis, head lice, ringworm, etc.,
  2. which spread when the skin of an infected person comes in contact with the skin of the other person.

Indirect Transmission

1. Airborne Transmission:

  1. Diseases that are transmitted by air as a medium is called airborne transmission.
  2. Example Transmission of cold.

2. Contaminated Objects:

  1. The objects around us carry pathogens.
  2. Touching the infected objects which were initially used by a diseased person might render us diseased.

3. Vector-Borne Diseases:

  1. Some infectious agents are transmitted by blood-sucking insects.
  2. The insects feed on hosts such as birds, animals, and humans and carry infectious agents from them.
  3. These infections are transmitted to some new host.
  4. Malaria and Lyme disease are two vector-borne diseases.
