Hypothesis is a supposition or proposed explanation made on the basis of limited evidence as a starting point for further investigation.
Hypothesis is based on known facts, without investigating further.
Hypothesis could be an answer to a question or many questions, but more importantly, hypothesis proposes many more questions, which need to be studied.
Example: De broglie laid hypothesis of dual nature of matter. It could answer few questions, but it proposed more questions of how matter could do so, and how the dual nature works.
Darwin proposed hypothesis in evolution. That again proposed many questions, for which scientists are still searching for answers.
So, hypothesis is a work on assumption, considering a few known facts. When the thesis can be proved mathematically, without questioning, then, thesis becomes theory.
